Why carousels are the most underrated format on Instagram
Carousels — multi-photo or multi-video posts capped at 10 slides — quietly became one of Instagram's highest-engagement formats around 2023. Social Insider's 2024 benchmarks showed carousels outperforming single-image posts on engagement-rate-per-impression by a meaningful margin, partly because Instagram re-serves a carousel to feed viewers who didn't swipe through the first time. From a creator-economy lens, carousels are the closest thing Instagram has to a long-form text format — and that makes archival genuinely useful.
The most common ask we hear: “I want to study a viral 10-slide carousel offline so I can take notes on the pacing, hook, and slide-to-slide design transitions.” Pulling slides individually from a screenshot tool is painful; most other downloaders return only slide #1. How we read the full carousel
Instagram exposes carousel posts as a single post object with a children array describing each slide's media URL, type, and CDN path. Instapdown reads that full array, walks each child, and fetches the corresponding scontent.cdninstagram.com URL individually before packaging the lot into a ZIP. The ZIP filenames are numbered in upload order (01.jpg, 02.mp4, etc.) so you can reconstruct the carousel sequence offline without guessing.
Same architecture rules apply: proxy-only (we never store the carousel files), no re-encode (slides are byte-for-byte copies of the CDN originals), no metadata stripping, public profiles only, and a real DMCA process at dmca@instapdown.com.

What is the maximum number of slides per carousel?+
Instagram caps a carousel at 10 slides. Instapdown handles the full ten — there is no slide limit on our end. If a creator posted fewer than 10 slides, you get exactly those, no padding, no duplicates. The ZIP is sized accordingly.
What resolution are the downloaded slides?+
Whatever the creator originally uploaded. Photos typically come back at 1080×1080 (square), 1080×1350 (4:5 portrait), or 1080×566 (16:9 landscape). Videos preserve their source bitrate and aspect ratio. Instapdown does not re-encode any slide — the ZIP holds byte-for-byte copies of the Instagram CDN files.
Does it work on mobile?+
Yes. On iPhone, Safari saves the ZIP to the Files app under Downloads — long-press to extract individual slides. On Android, the ZIP saves to your Downloads folder and any file manager (or the built-in Files app) can extract it. No app install required either way.
Can I download a single specific slide instead of the whole carousel?+
For photo-only carousels, the easiest path is to download the ZIP and extract just the slide you want. For a single-image post (not a carousel), use the dedicated Photo downloader, which returns one JPG instead of a ZIP. The two tools are optimized for different post types.
Does it work for private accounts?+
No. Carousel downloader supports public Instagram profiles only, the same as every other Instapdown tool. We do not bypass private-account permissions or login walls. For a carousel from a private account, ask the account owner to share or save it for you through Instagram's built-in share menu.
